Presenter bio: Judy Welp
Judy has been a Hampton Roads resident since 1990. She received her undergraduate degree from Clarke College in Dubuque, IA, and an MSW from West Virginia University. She worked for 10 years as a child welfare case worker before joining Allstate Insurance as a claims adjuster. Being the caregiver for her sister, who died from lung cancer in 2004, gave her the desire to learn more about the death process and what could be done to make it more compassionate. Judy is a lead volunteer with Compassion & Choices. This nonprofit organization works to educate, provide resources for end-of-life planning, and advocate for expanded options at the end of life. The goal of Compassion & Choices is that everyone receives end-of-life care that reflects their values, priorities, and beliefs. And most importantly, their wishes for a good death.
